Jennifer Shelby was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and currently resides in Hopewell Hill, New Brunswick. She is the author of many works of short fiction, including ‘Borrowed Wings’ for Flights from the Rock, ‘Mrs. Coleman’s Backyard Refugee Camp’ for Andromeda Spaceways, and ‘Toby’s Alicorn Adventure’ for Cricket. Award-Winning Author Jon Dobbin announced as a ‘Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock’ author!

Engen Books is proud to announce one of the authors that will be returning in 2020’s Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock collection: Jon Dobbin!

A native to the St. John’s metro region, Dobbin tied for first place in the 2017 48-Hour Writing Marathon, sponsored by THE Creative Learning, Thrive, and Engen Books. He placed second during the WANL Nightmare on Water Street event in October 2018. He describes himself as “the father of three, the husband to an amazing wife, an educator, and a tattoo and beard enthusiast.”

Rising Star Melissa Bishop announced as a Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock author!

Engen Books is proud to foster new, exceptional talent in it’s bestselling From the Rock anthology of short fiction. To that end, we are pleased to announce the inclusion of Melissa Bishop in 2020’s Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock.

Born and raised in the St. John’s /Mount Pearl area, Bishop is a newcomer to the genre fiction scene in Atlantic Canada whose fantastic prose has taken the provinces community by storm. Her work won two Kit Sora awards in 2019: July 2019 ‘Cycles’ and September 2019 ‘Huntress of the Woods,’ and has placed numerous other times. Brad Dunne, author of ‘After Dark Vapours’ announced as writing for ‘Pulp from the Rock’!

After Dark Vapours Brad DunneEngen Books is proud to announce that Brad Dunne, author of the 2018 novel After Dark Vapours, will writing for the 2020 anthology collection Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock with his tale ‘The Pale Horse.’

Brad Dunne is a freelance writer and editor from St. John’s, Newfoundland. He began his writing career as an intern at The Walrus magazine and has published journalism and essays in publications such as Maisonneuve, The Canadian Encyclopedia, and Herizons. His short fiction has been featured in In/Words, Acta Victoriana, and The Cuffer Anthology. His debut novel, After Dark Vapours, was released in October 2018 to great critical response, mixing literary sensibilities with genre storytelling.

Prize-Winner Corinne Lewandowski announced as a ‘Pulp from the Rock’ author!

Dystopia from the RockCorinne Lewandowski is an award-winning author and poet from Halifax Nova Scotia, whom we are proud to announce as a contributor to Dystopia from the Rock. She is a recipient of The Joyce Marshall Hsia Memorial Poetry Prize. Her previous work includes poetry, radio dramas, and the short story ‘Family Business’ in Dystopia from the Rock.

She brings with her ‘The Final Invasion,’ a intricate exploration of pulp science-fiction!

Engen Books is proud to introduce one of the exciting talents in genre fiction returning for 2020’s Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock collection: Lisa Daly!

Daly is an Archaeologist, historian, professional ballroom dance instructor, crafter, and avid baker.

She has published an extensive library of non-fiction works, the most recent including Sacrifice in Second World War Gander, in Canadians and War, Vol. 3. Lammi Publishing, Canada and An Empty Graveyard: The Victims of the 1946 AOA DC-4 Crash, Their Final Resting Place, and Dark Tourism, in AP Online Journal in Public Archaeology, 8(2): 79-98. Andrew Pike returns as a Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock author!

Author Andrew Pike returns in 2020’s Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock with his new story ‘Slipdream.’ Born and raised in Newfoundland, Pike has been slowly expanding his resume and making waves throughout 2019, submitting to a variety of Kit Sora challenges and working on his first novel. He enjoys coffee and photography.

One of the rising stars in the genre publishing world, Pike’s ‘Escape from Selenous Valley Retreat’ in Dystopia from the Rock was met with praise. His new tale takes heady, imagination-driven science-fiction to its furthest degree with a tale you’ll have to read over and over again, but will love every time.

Julie Aubut Gaudet announced as a Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock author!

One of our greatest pleasures is bringing new talent to the forefront with our From the Rock collections! With that in mind, we’re proud to announce that Julie Aubut Gaudet joins us for Pulp Sci-Fi from the Rock!

Gaudet was born in Manitoba and currently lives in Moncton, NB. She is an avid fan of Dungeons and Dragons and DMs several games, and spends most weekends playing a variety of board games with family and friends.

Gaudet has published two short works in the magazine Fantascript, ‘Muerto sino Vivo’ and ‘L’amour véritable,’ and her poetry (titled ‘A Wolf of all Seasons’) has been featured in a poetry anthology called A Celebration of Young Authors- Canada 2003.

She brings with her ‘Close Encounters,’ a charming story that our editors adored, and we think you will as well!
