Full Moon Art

More Sci-Fi from the RockSometimes my duties at Engen Books take on different responsibilities than simply writing and editing. Sometimes, not often, it involves art chores. Be it cover designs or promo images, it takes a lot of work… Even more when involving a different author’s character.

What follows is the conversation between myself and fellow author Steve Lake, regarding the art for the character of Liam from Legacy of the Full Moon.

This was my second idea for Liam. The first was deemed “too old” and “a blatant ripoff of Malcolm McDowell”… Which it was. This one was from my own head and a little better drawn. I was part way through inking it when I sent Steve the image for input. Steve said: can we move the chin in a little? So…

The chin gets moved in. That was followed by minor changes in these two:

Then we moved on to color. Once again, I thought it looked great…

Apologies for picture quality – The pictures were taken of my screen.

The author I always right, so we get a deeper red. Which does, admittedly, look bad-ass.

So yeah, it’s always a process creating promo images… But it’s a fun process.
